Progressive Muscle Relaxation
Today’s skill is a muscle relaxation technique. This is a mindfulness technique that helps to release tension in the muscles. What you want to do is tighten each muscle group for 5 sec, then release. Muscles don’t know how to relax. All they can do is tense and then not tense. This skill works because it over-exaggerates the tension and you feel relief due to lack of tension. You can work your way from the toes to the top of your head. Work in paired groups from toes, to calves to thighs and all the way up. This is a great skill to practice in bed before going to sleep.
